The project entitled “Expansion of the research and development infrastructure of a laboratory designated for the control and certification of medical devices: personal protective equipment and medical masks” is co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund under the Smart Growth Operational Programme for 2014-2020, specifically under Measure 2.1 Support for investments in R&D infrastructure of enterprises of the Smart Growth Operational Programme 2014–2020, path “Grant for infrastructure to combat COVID-19”.

The aim of the planned project is the development of a research and development laboratory for testing and certification of medical devices: FFP2 and FFP3 filtering facepiece respirators and surgical masks, which are essential personal protective equipment during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of the project, medical masks will be tested, and FFP2 and FFP3 respirators (Type 1 and Type 2) will be tested and prepared for mass production in accordance with detailed regulations, followed by market introduction of the tested products.

In order to effectively protect the user against the harmful effects of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, transmitted primarily through droplets during speaking or breathing, the masks must comply with the relevant requirements for protection against harmful biological agents, in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and Directive 93/42/EEC.
As a result of the project, a research area will be launched at TZF “POLFA” S.A. dedicated to the testing and technical analysis of personal protective equipment and medical masks in accordance with the requirements of standards EN 149 and EN 14683.
